Our Ethos

Our ethos is to provide high quality, safe and inclusive childcare from the catchment area of Penge, South Norwood and Thornton Heath that has regard for the themes and commitments of the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework.

We have a commitment to building positive relationships while working in partnership with parents/carers and working closely with other agencies such as Ofsted, Croydon Early Years, Vision Support and The Speech and Language Team to ensure that the children in our care are receiving the best possible start to life.

Our expectation is that we will provide an enabling environment, both inside and out, that offers a wide variety of experiences and activities that will help all children to develop to their full potential during their time with us.  In order to help us monitor the success of these experiences and activities, and their part in child development, we observe the children ‘at play’ and use these observations to help us make informed decisions in our planning to cater for the individual needs of the children as we very much view each child as unique.

In order to ensure the children’s learning and development needs are met we plan using the principles of The Early Years Foundation Stage and ensure that all planning is flexible and allows for spontaneity and for the ideas of the children to be explored as theses are paramount in their continued all round development.

Aims and Objectives

The aims and objectives of the Nursery include: –

  • To provide children with an inviting, friendly, nurturing, safe, secure, caring and stimulating environment in which they are able to express themselves freely, build positive relationships and develop to their full potential whatever their individual needs may be.
  • To provide each child with a ‘key person’.  This person will take primary responsibility for helping the child and their families to settle and build relationships at the setting.
  • To enable the children to develop a positive self-image and ensure that their physical and emotional well being is catered for during their time at the setting.
  • To work closely with parents and other agencies so the needs of the children are always being met.
  • To promote equality amongst the children by:
  1. Providing a non-sexist environment in which children are able to access all toys, books, and games;
  2. Providing children with positive images and resources that reflect the diversity of our community, for example, posters, toys, food, clothing and celebrating festivals.
  • To work towards excelling in providing the Welfare Requirements and following the Practice Guidance for the Early Years Foundation Stage
  • To provide places for children with special needs and staff who are trained to give the child and parent/main carer support.
  • To have an open-door policy for parents/carers in order to help us work in partnership with them and ensure their input into the care their child receives with us.
  • To provide quality care, and education for all children in our setting.
  • To actively encourage all our staff to take part in regular training to ensure that they acquire and maintain a deep and up to date knowledge and understanding of the childcare issues that are integral to our commitment to providing high quality and inclusive childcare.  We believe that the quality of the staff reflects the quality of the setting.
